Lina Inverse, Gourry, Zelgadiss, and Amelia are on a quest to uncover an ancient treasure hidden in ruins, guided by a mysterious map. The treasure is rumored to contain powerful magic.
They meet a bandit involved in the black market who offers them a treasure map in exchange for a large sum of money. Being the avid trader that she is, Lina bargains for a lower price, which only ends in a fireball rampage, triggered by Lina obviously.
As they move forward, they venture deeper into the unknown terrain trying to decipher clues that could lead them to the ruins, while effortlessly fending off futile attacks from the previous vengeful bandits. The group encounter Mimi and Nene, also in quest of the treasure, resulting in a well matched confrontation. The group finally uncovers a secret underground chamber, ditching their two rivals in the process, and have to navigate a labyrinth by solving a series of riddles and physical challenges, not before coming across a comical mazoku sent by Chaos Dragon Garv.
A mysterious book is found, which holds ancient, powerful magic, but they must complete a special ritual involving singing and dancing in order to access its power. In the climax, the group of Lina is surrounded by enemies on all fronts, from rivals, bandits, to mazoku. Lina and Amelia, guided by Zelgadiss, begin the ritual dressed in the prescribed garments, which is really a choregraphed singing performance, only to receive a divine glow and nothing more. Mimi and Nene reveal that the 'treasure' was actually a folk festival song to invoke the ancient villagers' gods which had been lost to time.
Embarrassed, Lina launches a Dragon Slave in fiery fury, blasting everyone off. At first, content that no one would dare bring up this incident, Lina is quickly shocked to realize that Martina, who was passing by in company of Xelloss, had witnessed everything and was even mimicking the ritual's choreography to mock her. Of course, Martina is smacked with a Dragon Slave.
The episode ends with Lina lamenting the amount of money that she spent on this quest, especially annoyed by the absurdity of it all.
